The Facebook Marketing Book Is A Perfect Guide To Facebook For Business

I'm no stranger to social media. I've been on facebook for three years, and I've managed pages for a while as well. So when I picked up The Facebook Marketing Book, by Dan Zarrella & Alison Zarrella, I wasn't sure if I would find a whole lot of new, helpful information. So I was pleasantly surprised when I did.

The Facebook Marketing Book is designed to help a newbie, but give more than just a ‘log in and put up a profile picture' kind of description. Full of visual examples on every other page, this book covers everything from complete basics to total customization of a facebook page for business.

What I really liked about the book was its organization & ease for finding something quickly if I needed to come back to it later. Each section literally has it's own page, with a corresponding screen grab to demonstrate. It is definitely a resourceful book that you'll want to hang onto….at least until version 2.0 shows up.

The only real downside I found was that it seemed to gear more toward product-based businesses, giving tons of examples from Victoria's Secret, Target and the like. Working in a service-oriented business myself, I found it hard to figure out how I might use many of the suggestions,  but they are really just a jumping-off point for unique creativity.

The unfortunate reality is that this book won't have a long shelf-life. Facebook is constantly updating its site, changing things and making them more (or sometimes less) user-friendly. The vast majority of the content will remain the same for a while, but even with a 2011 copyright date (2010 first print) there have been changes to the way facebook utilizes its pages.

If you're involved in any aspect of social media for your business, I would highly suggest picking this book up. It's a handy tool to have on any facebooker's shelf. Grab it at Amazon.com.
