What To Wear To Work

blog 1

Dressing appropriately for work can be confusing at times. I've had jobs where I've had to wear a skirt, heels and fancy blouse to. I've also had jobs where I was allowed to wear basically anything I wanted. It all depends on the company and what your boss expects. Clothes are very important and say a lot about a person. A company that has their employees dress in suits, long skirts and high heels displays that they are a very uptight a serious company. A company that has their employees wear casual clothes displays that they are a very laid back company. I personally prefer the laid back companies.

I was very curious about what other people had to say about this whole dressing appropriately for work concept. So, I went to a great website called HARO.com. If you don't know anything about HARO.com, I suggest you check it out. I posted a query asking fashion experts and stylists what exactly the dress codes Business Casual, Contemporary Business Casual and Smart Casual mean to them.

Personal stylist, Kami Gray said Business Casual means wearing a polo shirt or a solid colored shirt tucked into jeans or khaki pants. She said you should wear a brown matte-finish belt with brown shoes. Stores like Eddie Bauer and Lands End have great Business Casual apparel. Fashion and beauty blogger, Shnieka Johnson said Business Casual apparel for men is collared shirts, khaki pants with dress shoes. For women, a dress or khaki pants with a variety of tops is acceptable as long as the tops are not low cut.

Image consultant, Linda Froiland explains how the difference between Business Casual, Contemporary Business Casual and Smart Casual comes down to the little details like open or closed toed shoes. She said many years ago there were strict dress codes for work attire. But then came casual Friday attire and now in some businesses, everyday is casual attire day. Linda Froiland also went on to explain Contemporary Casual attire. Contemporary Casual is more dressy than Business Casual with perhaps a trendy shirt or blouse along with casual dress pants, with women a fashionable skirt and top or a casual dress.
