Lowe’s Enters Smart Home Market
The first thing I did when writing this article was to find a great image of Disney's Smart House. I want to first congratulate Lowe's Home Improvement for copying off of a Disney flick from many years ago. Great job. With this, Lowe's announced it is entering the emerging smart home market, with a cloud-based home management system called: Iris™. Iris gives customers the ability to control and interact with their home from anywhere using their smart phone or computer. Iris will be available in Lowe’s stores and on Lowes.com in mid-2012.
Wow. Did anyone else just read that? Cloud computing on the 'home' level is a very cool concept. The idea has been formed and enhanced for the last few years, so Lowe's having an involvement is neither original nor unexpected. Good for them. For me, the name of the product stood out right away. Iris.
Sound familiar? Maybe not, but let us access or analytical brain. Iris backwards is Siri. Siri is Apple' useless groundbreaking update to their recent iPhone 4s. I applaud having the brains and foresight to use a popular name, but backwards!.
#w00t. In any event, keep your eyes peeled for more big corporations jumping on bandwagons and knocking off other people's ideas.
