Product Review: Incipio MacBook Pro Honu and Selvage Sleeves
Chances are that if you are buying a MacBook Pro, you want to keep it from getting scratched and scuffed when you throw (well, hopefully not throw, maybe delicately place?) it into your bag or purse. Yet, having to sacrifice style for security is never really ideal and it’s a dilemma that Incipio always seems to be aware of. They recently released a new line of MacBook Pro 15 inch sleeves, including the Honu and the Selvage Denim sleeves. Both designs have sturdy zippers that don’t stick and soft microsuede interiors, the differences are mainly in the aesthetics and the additions.
The Honu sleeve we received is a great neon pink color with lime screen accents and interior. It is definitely eye catching and would likely prevent it from being easily misplaced or overlooked—there are other less vibrant colors for those more partial to greys and black. The lightweight nylon exterior is soft and appealing, but it doesn’t offer the same feeling of protection as the Selvage’s denim casing. It does have a nice layer of padding on both sides for protection that puts it above other sleeves that lack that addition.
The Selvage Denim sleeve has a more subdued appearance than the Honu, but is no less appealing. The denim exterior gives it a sturdier feel to the case and seems more durable than the lightweight nylon. A nice addition to the Selvage that the Honu lacks is an exterior pocket, although the pocket does not have a zipper and serves more to keep cords from being tangled or paper in one place than a place for actual storage—things easily slip out of it when moved from an upright position. This only comes in the denim material with red accents.
The two cases both serve to save those much loved MacBooks from scratches from everything else we throw in our bags, as well as add protection with the extra padding. There are enough colors between the two designs that they’re worth checking out as options.
Honu Price: $34.99
Selvage Price: $49.99
