peace for Ed Domain and Ron May

Let there be PEACE: Ed Domain vs. Ron May

  • 1

As some of you may have already read The May Report tonight, please take into consideration that I, Jess Loren, will go on record to say that Ed has been a pleasure to work with and at no point have I ever felt threatened. I feel that some of the things Mr. May is saying here are unwarranted. Ed and I are working together to create a great conference coming this December and he has shown to be an extremely hard worker and truly a believer of the American Dream. I ask that when you read The May Report you take it for what it is, and not judge Ed Domain’s character, or work ethic. Will the real Edward Domain please stand up, by Ron May In the beginning, for those who have lived long enough to have been around in the burgeoning days of the Chicago tech community, there was The May Report, i-Street, e-Prairie, and, there was actually tech coverage in the Chicago Sun-Times, Crain's and the Chicago Tribune. If the names Eric Benderoff, Brad Spirrison, Dave (press re-releaser) Lundy and Howard Wolinsky ring any bells, believe it or not they were all reporters at one time before they morphed into business people. We all had our different takes on covering the news of the day. Darcy's I-Street was more feature driven and promotional, with less teeth than The May Report. Josh Schneider's (now known as Metnick) e-Prairie focused on things like "the girls of high tech" (you can figure out the rest) and the Sun-Times and Trib picked up the slack with more rah-rah and less investigative material. It was during this period that The May Report's self proclaimed newest competitor, Edward Domain, was enjoying his longest period of employment during the past decade: selling steel doors. Herewith we'll take a special May Report look at the pedigree of Mr. Domain, henceforth known as Fast Eddie, or in stage parlance, "the Aluminator." The issue here is not really whether or not The May Report welcomes competition. Clearly it does and as any business person knows, competition (or in the parlance of Ed Domain, "fighting") will help both businesses become better. This term "fight" is a telling indicator of what Ed Domain, as far as I can discern, is all about and is the nature of this report: Who or what is the fellow who is hell bent on developing the "Tech Crunch" of the Midwest, and claims to have "just moved here," when he has really been here for a good decade. Why is he new on the scene? It has more to do with reinvention than relocation, for Edward, the former water delivery boy for Nestle, has re-imagined himself as a technology reporter and is now hell bent on convincing anyone who will listen, that he actually has something to say. Especially the attendees his second launch party this year. I feel sort of like Rudyard Kipling (Note to Ed - he was a famous writer) as I write the words...These are the facts as I know them -- you can decide who this person really is. I first encountered Ed or Edward as he is wont to be called by the "business community" back in 2009. He was in attendance at a party that Josh Karp was throwing for the Printed Blog and he was the resident ad sales guy in attendance. We can thank Ed for all those garage sale and mom and pop shop classified ads that managed to keep Karp's vision alive for a good 60 days or so. I think the proper term is "display classified" - is that right Ed? But I digress. Here was my first impression of Edward: +++++++++++++++++ From Briefly noted in TMR, 5/20/2009 * Josh Karp and his minions had a party or a tweet up last night at 1739 N. Damen at the T-shirt Deli. I got there as they were closing down and they had about 50 people. It was a motley crew with bloggers and a big guy who looks like a bouncer named Edward Domain. What an interesting name for someone in the internet biz. Anyway, he sells ads. www.theprintedblog.com ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Read More »
