Google, continuing its attempt to dominate every internet-related field there is, recently purchased The Dealmap, a site which consolidates discounts from daily deal sites. This deal comes on the heels of Google’s failed attempt to buy Chicago-based Groupon and their launch of their own daily deal site, Google Offers. The Dealmap was launched in May of 2010 and since then has reached over two million users and even previously partnered with Microsoft for its daily deal site, Bing Deals. The site’s featured app has been downloaded well over one million times as well. Currently, Google Offers is only available in San Francisco, Portland, and New York, so one would assume this acquisition would be a step on the road on expanding on that. Read More »

People still love a deal, but nearly 23 million Americans are now using the convenience of the internet to get them. Group buying websites like Groupon and Living Social offer thousands of daily deals on the web to consumers with the click of a mouse. But as easy as it may seem more than half of the 44% of consumers that visit these sites say they feel overwhelmed with the amount of emails they receive daily from them. Read More »
So here we are, on the wings of another burgeoning tech boom. People in the streets are screaming for a social media tsunami, and the fat cats high up in their lofts are twiddling their thumbs for the coming web 3.0 profits. But then reality sets in, and this reality is rough. I have been monitoring Groupon closely over the last few months, watching it grow, and observing the entity it has become. All that one can gather is this: Groupon is a prime example of how social media and marketing can and will fail. Read More »
