It threw customers into a frenzy when Netflix raised prices by 60%. Their solution to the customer outrage: a weak apology from Reed Hastings and the announcement, on the Netflix Blog, of splitting the DVD-by-mail service into a separate entity called Qwikster. Netflix will soon only offer streaming, which would be great if they actually offered a more comprehensive selection of media, other than dated British TV shows (and not even some of the best ones) and dated movies. Hasting promises that the “additional streaming content [coming] in the next few months will be substantial,” but will that promise be enough to keep customers paying in the meantime? Read More »
How does a Yorkshire Terrier take down a 250-pound Scottish man? These are the types of questions I don't want to answer, but Jerry Rice & Nitus Dog Football raises these questions. In a victory for video game retailers and gamers alike, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down California's proposed "violent games law" in Brown v. Entertainment Merchants Association on June 27. I probably know more about video games than anyone else in my office right now. But I didn't know that video games could be used to solve a crime. It's true, I beat Scooby Doo Mysteries on Sega, but that pales in comparison to the Medford, Oregon Police Department catching a criminal after stealing a video game console. Read More »
